St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) – Ozanam Sayings

Ozanam’s Words of Wisdom.

“Charity is a tender mother who keeps her eyes fixed on the infant she carries at her breast who no longer thinks of herself and who forgets her beauty for her love.”

“The knowledge of social well being” said Frederic “ can be learned not from books but in the climbing the stairs to the poor person’s garret, sitting by their fireside, feeling the same cold that pierces them sharing the secrets of their lonely hearts and troubled minds.”

“Let us do without hesitation whatever lies in our hands.”

“The poor person is a unique person of God’s fashioning with an inalienable right to respect.”

“Charity is the Samaritan who pours oil on the wounds of the traveller who has been attacked. It is justice’s role to prevent the attack.”

“We must do what is agreeable to God. Therefore, we must do what Our Lord Jesus Christ did when preaching the Gospel. Let us go to the poor.”

“Justice is a fixed star which human societies try to follow from their uncertain orbits. It can be seen from different points of view, but justice itself remains unchanged.”
