The Group

We meet each month (on the third Wednesday, except August and December. Normally our venue is St Albanís Parish Centre, Hall Street, opposite St Albanís Church on Chester Road (SK11 8DJ).

Our Wednesday evening programme is a mixture of discussion meetings and events such as talks and documentary films. We are also active in other events in the parish and elsewhere, wherever possible with other churches and bodies.

Members may attend regularly or keep in touch via our newsletter.

Our Scope

The term justice and peace covers a very wide field. We have a number of focus areas: poverty, development and peace and more recently, after a study of Laudato Sií, we have worked on issues of the environment, including climate change.

We seek to support the work of various agencies where possible ensuring that their message is heard and acted upon - in our parish and outside. These include:

CAFOD works with partners across the world, wherever the need is greatest, to bring hope, compassion and solidarity to poor communities to end poverty and injustice. CAFOD works with people of all faiths and none.

CAAT (the Campaign against the Arms Trade)

The Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) in the UK works to end the international arms trade.

Fairtrade Foundation

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.

Pax Christi

Based on the Gospel and inspired by faith, Pax Christi promotes a vision of a world where people can live in peace, without fear of violence in any form.

The Climate Coalition

The Climate Coalition is the UK's largest group dedicated to action on climate change and limiting it's impact on the world's poorest communities.

Fixed points in our calendar are events in which we have varying degrees of involvement:

Forthcoming Events

There's lots of things happening in the coming weeks to celebrate the Season of Creation.

We celebrate the World Day of Prayer for Creation on 1st September, as instituted by Pope Francis and in keeping with his encyclical "Laudato Si" - Care for our Common Home, and to follow it with events through The Season of Creation until 4th October the Feast of St Francis.

To find out more about how to get involved, have a look at our "Celebrating The Season of Creation Day by Day" Leaflet

Sunday 24th September, 2:00pm:
Reflective Ramble

Wednesday 4th October, 7:45pm at St Alban's Parish Centre:
Celebrate the end of the Season of Creation with prayers and cakes

We shall also be promoting the season through posters in Church and items in the weekly and monthly newsletters and asking other churches, through HOPE and personal contacts, to do the same.
