Catechesis

We have a responsibility as a parish family to help one another grow in Faith. We do this in our own families for our children and for one another. There are special times when we may need a little help. Preparation for the Sacraments is one such time. Helping children to come to the Sacraments for the first time is an important time for them and for the parish. Likewise, welcoming new members into the family of the Faith, into a parish community, is a responsibility for the Parish.

BAPTISM
The Baptism Group visits families in preparation for the Sacrament of Baptism, to make contact with them and let them know what is involved and how they can participate in the celebration of their baby’s Baptism. They also help in the rehearsal and the Ceremony itself.

For more information, please contact one of our priests on 423 446 or clergy@stalbanmacc.org.uk

BECOMING A CATHOLIC (RCIA)
To prepare adults to be welcomed into full communion with the Church, a special programme of meetings is available called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Suitable for those who have expressed an interest in becoming Catholics it provides an opportunity for faith sharing with a team of parishioners and sponsors. While it involves a small group in the meetings, ideally the whole parish community is involved, through their interest, prayer and friendship. The journey towards full communion with the Church is linked very closely with the seasons of the Church’s liturgical year.

See the St Alban’s RCIA page for more information.

The group of Catechists who help adults interested in becoming Catholics and following through the RCIA is co-ordinated by Denise Volpato.

CONFIRMATION
In this Diocese the Sacrament of Confirmation is offered to young people in the second year of Secondary Education. Preparation for the reception of this Sacrament is parish based and the programme runs from January to June. A team of Catechists help the candidates, as well as their parents to prepare for this important stage in their Christian life.

FELLOWSHIP GROUP
The group for children and adults with learning difficulties meets on the second Saturday of the month throughout the year - except during the month of August - at 11am in the Parish Centre for fellowship. After coffee and biscuits, we prepare the liturgy for the midday Mass in Church. Members are encouraged to participate fully in the life of the Church and when needed members are supported in preparation for the Sacraments.
